Paid Time Off

We're fast moving and have high expectations at A-B, and to perform your best, you need to rest, refresh and enjoy time away from work.

Take advantage of Paid Time Off (PTO) offered by A-B to eligible employees in addition to floating holidays. Request time away in Workday.

Sick time

When you're feeling under the weather, time away to recover can be essential.

To enable you to take time away and heal from short-term illness or care for an unwell child, spouse or domestic partner living in your home, A-B offers eligible employees up to 10 days of sick time. To view your sick time, check out Workday or take a look at the policy on the Tap Room.

If you've used all of your sick days and have a condition where you may need to take more time away, you may want to apply for Short Term Disability.

Don't forget...

You do not have to share the condition with your manager when you request sick days. Please take a look at the Sick Time policy on the Tap Room for more information.

Short-term Disability

Short-term Disability is available through MetLife and offers income protection to eligible employees if you become ill (including pregnancy) or injured - a non-work related injury - and are unable to work for a limited period of time, which could be up to 26 weeks.

To review your benefits, access MetLife's portal here.

If you need to file a leave request:

  1. Please let your manager know 30 days before your leave begins (or as far in advance as is practical). You don't have to share your actual condition with your manager.
  2. To submit a request, call MetLife at (800) 396-8621 or submit your request online.

Are you an eligible expecting mother? Congratulations! A-B offers 6-8 weeks of paid Short-term Disability Leave to enable you to recover from childbirth. Learn more here.

Intermittent Leave

When employees take certain types of Leave like FMLA and Military Leave, it may be possible to take a partial leave that still allows them to continue working (an intermittent leave). Requests for intermittent and/or reduced schedule leave must be approved in advance in a reasonable amount of time as determined between the manager and the employee (ideally 30 days or as soon as is possible).

Submit a leave claim or update an existing claim by contacting MetLife at (800) 396-8621 or accessing MetLife’s portal.

Parental Leave

A-B’s Parental Leave Policy applies to eligible parents (including same-sex or domestic partners) who welcome a new child through birth, adoption, or surrogacy.

Learn more about the benefits available if you’re planning to grow your family, expecting a child or review A-B's Parental Leave policy on the Tap Room.

The amount of time you need to be disabled before Long-term Disability benefit payments begin (called the elimination period) is typically 180 days, but please confirm by viewing your Summary Plan Description in the Benefits Portal.
